Finding Your Flow is an important discovery in each of our lives. In the practice of Touching Essence, flowing around the table and with your hands flowing and sculpting the body contours of your partner, are an essential and foundational aspect.
In this Module, the focus is the Supine Position (face up). Most massage and bodywork trainings focus on prone (face-down), with only a short time spent covering the front body. My goodness, becoming proficient, skilled and confident when touching a partner’s front body, requires time, practice, sensitivity, and the use of all 5 physical senses along with the three more subtle senses of Intuition, Imagination and Inspiration.
Using Your Bodyweight is also foundational to Touching Essence. Sensing and knowing when, where and how much pressure to use essential elements of this practice. How do we cultivate and refine these abilities? Instruction, and most importantly, Presence and Practice. Using bodyweight allows the student to sink deeply into the muscles that are most commonly held. Specific attention will be paid to the shoulders, neck, middle and lower back, in both prone and supine positions informing possibilities for eliciting the Relaxation Response.
Moving Your Body Around the Table and Moving Your Partner’s Body on the Table: The Dance
Again, these are essential to a Touching Essence session…thus, the session becomes a dance, a moving meditation practice shared between giver and receiver. We facilitate learning effective methods for moving the limbs and torsos of people of all sizes, and leaning their weight into their forearms, hands and fingers. Considerable attention to the body mechanics of the giver, used while moving the receiver’s body both on the floor and on the table will be a focus of this module. Learning to use leverage, to use the sheet in support of movement, opens infinite possibilities for eliciting the Relaxation Response.
How do we transfer our knowledge and experience to you?
Through sensory awareness exercises, Gestalt Communication Practice, Experiential Anatomy, Moving Meditation Practices, and Breath Awareness. Through brief lectures and demonstrations, with lots of hands-on practice. Through at the table assistance we support students in finding their flow, intuiting how, where and when to use bodyweight and pressure, and how to gracefully dance with and on the body.

Long, Flowing Strokes from head to toes, from fingers to shoulders, up and down the body. Moving around the table as an artist, a sculptor in support of the receiver’s sensing themselves as both whole and healed.
